Textile and apparel trends in North Africa

The recently released industry report “World textile and apparel trade and production trends: Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey” from Textiles Intelligence contains statistical data, information and insight into the textile and apparel industries in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. The 27-page report from the global business information company Textiles Intelligence Ltd., Wilmslow/UK, presents comprehensive information on domestic production and on exports of textiles and clothing by type and destination.
Textile and clothing exports from Egypt shot up in 2021. This represented a recovery after exports had declined in 2020 as a consequence of the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. There were increases in exports to most of Egypt's major markets in 2021, as well as increases in Egyptian exports to the EU in the first half (H1) of 2022 and to the USA in the first 9 months of 2022.
Elsewhere, textile and clothing exports from Turkey rose in 2021 and during January-September 2022. Also, Turkish textile and clothing production increased in 2021 – although textile production declined slightly during January-September 2022.
In Morocco, textile and clothing exports were up in 2021 – reflecting increases in exports to almost all of Morocco's major markets. In 2022 there was strong growth in Moroccan clothing exports to the EU in H1/2022 and there was also strong growth in Moroccan clothing exports to the USA in the first 9 months of the year. Moroccan textile and clothing production, meanwhile, was down in Q1/2022 but it was up sharply in Q2/2022.
In Tunisia, textile and clothing exports increased in 2021 and was up during January-July 2022. Meanwhile, production by Tunisian textile, clothing and fur manufacturers also increased in 2021 and was up during January-September 2022.
