Especially in the sports sector, where synthetic fibers are predominantly used, an increasing environmental awareness and end-of-life considerations are triggering new innovations. The latest fabric innovation of Lenzing AG, Lenzing/Austria, developed in collaboration with Pyratex (Spain), Flocus (Netherlands), Marchi&Fildi (Italy) and Studio MLR (Denmark), gained the “100% Jury Like” recognition by the Performance Days, which takes place as a digital fair week from May 17-21, 2021.
This innovative double-layer knit made of 100% cellulosic fibers consists of kapok fibers on the inside and Tencel Modal fibers with Eco Color technology (a very resource-saving technology for embedding color pigments during fiber production) on the outside.
It sets new standards in the field of biodegradable performance materials as, in contrast to fabrics made from synthetic fibers, it biodegrades or can be used as feedstock for new products. While the hollow kapok fibers have hydrophobic properties, Tencel Modal fibers transport the moisture to the outer layer, distribute it and thus contribute to a better drying performance.
