The Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Sharm el-Sheikh/Egypt turned out to be one of the most closely watched events in recent years, an opportunity to bring together leaders from around the world in the face of a pressing and undeniable need.
Isko, a brand of Sanko Tekstil, the textile division of the Sanko Holding AS, Gaziantep/Turkey, was the only manufacturer representative of the fashion industry at the United Nations event, taking part on November 12, 2022, at the focus talk “Circular Systems for a Net Positive Fashion Industry” organized by the Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) and the UNEP (United Nations Environment Program).
Elena Faleschini, Senior Manager Brand Partnerships Isko, and the other speakers (Federica Marchionni, Lily Cole, Miranda Schnitger, Samata Pattinson, Holly Syrett and Tarek Alkhoury) agreed that harmonization and transparency in goals are critical and vertical and horizontal partnerships are key. They also agreed that investment in innovation is vital to a circular business model in fashion, and that fashion must be part of the discussions around climate change and net positive.
This commitment was reaffirmed on November 18, 2022, in Riyadh/Saudi Arabia, during the Fashion Futures event, where the panel discussion was on "Designing in the New Age of Sustainability – How can independent brands evolve to serve a new consumer mindset?".
Collaborations and interconnections are the way forward, and at the 2022 Textile Exchange Conference from November 14-19, 2022, in Colorado/USA, the global players of the textile industry explored tools, resources, and initiatives to drive this change at scale.
