As part of the "Herrmann Cares" program, the 2022 Christmas donation of €10,000 will go to the non-profit organization The Ocean Cleanup to remove plastic waste from the oceans.
With its ultrasonics welding technology, Herrmann Ultraschalltechnik GmbH & Co. KG, Karlsbad/Germany, can contribute to a functioning circular economy. However, many plastic products are still not disposed of properly and end up in the environment instead. That is why the company wants to help recover this valuable raw material to prevent damage to the environment.
The Ocean Cleanup, Rotterdam/Netherlands, uses a specially developed collection system for the extraction. With the help of the ocean current, plastic pieces ranging in size from several meters to a few millimeters can be collected without disturbing local ecosystems. The collected plastic will be recycled and reused for new products. Currently, the systems are primarily used to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, but are expected to help eliminate plastic waste globally in the future.
