Beyond your clothes

Less than 1% of all textiles worldwide are currently recycled into new garments. Recycling is under immense pressure with the exponential increase of fast fashion. With the aim to raise the awareness on the environmental and social impacts of the fast fashion industry, the European Commission has funded the Beyond your Clothes campaign.

This is a Pan-European campaign addressing the environmental consequences of the fast fashion industry and its social impact, which is becoming a growing concern, as our clothes consumption has increased by 60% in only 15 years and is expected to exponentially rise under a business-as-usual scenario.

Meanwhile, with Covid-19, a large number of unsold garments are being burnt or are destined for landfills.

As a result, some countries are now submerged by this up-surging issue and are considering exporting to stop the accumulation of textile waste.

For this reason, it seems particularly vital to increase awareness around this new environmentally threatening conjuncture.
