The Textechno group member Lenzing Instruments GmbH & Co. KG, Gampern/Austria, will exhibit quality and process control systems for filament yarns, staple fibers, nonwovens and woven textiles.

The company produces and develops instrumentation for a large number of applications, ranging from laboratory equipment to at-line units for use directly in production and sophisticated online control sensor and camera systems.
As a pioneer within the area of online sensor technology, it is a partner for industry 4.0 solutions offering real time defect control and continuous monitoring of vital material characteristics.
2 new systems for online control will be exhibited: NOS 300 and CIS 300.
Unique online process control of the fiber orientation of nonwovens is offered by the Nonwovens Orientation System NOS 300. The illuminated web is scanned by a high resolution camera and the evaluation of the resulting images gives feedback about the MD:CD ratio, meaning the ratio of fibers in the machine vs. cross direction of the web. From the MD:CD ratio, correlations can be drawn to the strength of the web, thus enabling an online, non-destructive monitoring of the nonwovens strength. It is also available as an offline system.
Optimized real-time and continuous crimp control of staple fiber is guaranteed by the new generation of the Crimp Inspection System CIS 300. State-of-the-art image processing technology enables monitoring of a huge amount of single fibers for the crimp distribution along and across the moving fiber tow. Results can be traced back to specific bale ID’s and are given as average crimp count (counts/cm), long crimp, micro crimp and crimp distribution. The new intuitive and flexible software, higher image frequency and the enhanced possibilities for monitoring fibers of a wider color range characterize the new CIS 300.
With the new Elkometer 200, the successor of Textechno’s Elkometer III, quality verification is made easy by means of high-volume, precise and fast defect detection on the running yarn. The at-line system combines parallel mounted optical Prompt OLO sensors with a powerful yarn take-off unit for efficient monitoring of produced defects. Elkometer 200 is tailored with up to 8 or even more sensor and yarn positions side by side. Optionally, one of the positions can be equipped with the Defect View camera system for in-depth analysis of detected anomalies. A high-capacity data collection system and the Prompt Visualize software provide extensive graphical and numerical results presentation both in real time as well as in form of statistical reports.
For characterization of staple fiber properties, Lenzing Instruments supplies automated high precision testing equipment. The new BT 100 bulk tester tests the compressibility, filling power and recovery properties of filling materials such as bulky staple fibers and bulky filament yarns. The automated test procedure for repetitive compressing and decompressing of the material enables testing of a high number of single fibers during one and the same test run.
As for nonwovens testing, the company delivers standard setting quality control instruments such as Lister AC (liquid strike-through time) and Wetback (rewet properties). To be presented at the ITMA is the newcomer Runoff: the instrument offers controlled and standardized measurement of the run-off liquid collected from a coverstock specimen being exposed to a certain amount of liquid on an inclined table.

The Prompt online sensors and camera systems for real time monitoring of filament yarn offer detection of yarn diameter variations, interlace, twist, tension, spin finish, color as well as all kinds of yarn defects such as broken filaments and fluff.
At-line, immediately after production, the stand-alone instruments Rapid 600 V and DTI 600 offer monitoring of interlace properties and draw tension on the running yarn: Rapid 600 V yields information about number of interlace, node distance, tenacity and the absolute maximum distance between detected interlace nodes. DTI 600 measures the draw tension produced in the running yarn, which is heated to a certain temperature and drawn to a certain percentage.
The fully automated measurement technology allows for high-volume measurements. An even higher automatization degree is achieved in combination with the Sequential End Sampling System SESS.
TST 2 is part of the company’s offer of equipment for thermal shrinkage testing of filament yarn, tapes and plastic film. It tests up to 2 samples simultaneously for percent shrinkage and/or shrinkage force. The shrinkage behavior is either observed at a constant temperature over a certain period of time or during a temperature slope. The flexible software program also offers an option of customized testing sequences to be created.
Standardized testing of titer and tensile properties of staple fiber is offered by the combination Vibroskop 500 and Vibrodyn 500. Their flexible design together with the versatile software program make the instruments suitable for various applications such as production quality control, income control and product research. Vibroskop 500 determines the titer (dtex, den) of any kind of staple fiber by means of the standardized Vibroscope method. Vibrodyn 500 analyses staple fiber for tenacity (cN/dtex, g/den) and elongation (%), either in dry or wet condition. Options of cycle test and NDR are offered in the software.
The latest generation of spin finish tester, Alfa 500, offers automatic, time saving and environmentally friendly spin finish analysis of filament and staple fiber. By means of a rotating conveyor belt, hot deionized water as a dissolvent and a carbon analyzer, the carbon content of up to 28 samples is determined. Based on the carbon content, the correlating spin finish content in % OPU (oil pick up) or % FOY (finish on yarn) is calculated. The testing of each sample takes only 3 minutes, which means immense time savings in comparison with other methods. Further, the absence of chemical dissolvents means no costs for purchasing and disposal thereof and therefore reduced expenses.
