Analyzing thermal stress and motion through smart workwear

Technology enabling preventive action to reduce incidents of on-the-job injuries has great potential to make a significant economic and worker safety impact by minimizing injury risks. In a multi-year plan to launch smart safety apparel with the aim of reducing job-related injuries for industrial workers, Gore has announced an equity investment and collaboration with LifeBooster, a leading developer in connected worker risk analytics technology. 

The collaboration brings together the unique qualities of both companies, pairing the material science expertise and Gore-Tex Product Technologies of the producer of functional textiles W.L. Gore & Associates Inc., Newark, DE/USA, with LifeBooster’s wearable technology and near real-time ergonomic and heat stress data. The extensible cloud platform from LifeBooster Inc., Vancouver/Canada, assesses multiple injury risks to workers in industrial environments by analyzing motion, posture, thermal stress and vibration. This powerful combination will result in co-branded smart work apparel that takes the assessment of injury risk and worker protection to a new level. 

The first-generation garments have successfully completed field trials, with systems going to market in autumn 2021.
