The wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris/France by Christo and Jeanne Claude will be on display from September 18 - October 3, 2021. Gleistein was responsible for the design and manufacture of the ropes used to fix 25,000 m² of blue fabric to the Arc de Triomphe. This involved working with the team to determine all lengths, testing ropes under stipulated specifications, adjusting elongation characteristics and matching colors. In total, Geo. Gleistein & Sohn GmbH, Bremen/Germany, supplied 3,000 m of fire-retardant, bright red rope in final makeup with matching red fittings for the project.
The project is directly related to various past installations by Christo and Jeanne Claude, including Berlin's “Wrapped Reichstag” in 1995. Even then, Gleistein was the partner for the development and manufacture of the ropes – just as it was in 2013 for the construction of the “Big Air Package” in the Gasometer in Oberhausen/Germany.
