During the Filtrex Europe conference and exhibition from November 8-9, 2022, in Berlin/Germany, the Filtrex Innovation Award, the only award that recognizes innovation in the filtration industry, was presented. Participants were invited to choose the winner of the 2022 award from 4 shortlisted nominations. The inline charging technology HycuTec by Oerlikon Nonwoven won the coveted prize.
Hydro-charging using HycuTec from Oerlikon Nonwoven, Neumünster/Germany, a brand of the Division Oerlikon Polymer Processing Solutions of Oerlikon Management AG, Pfäffikon/Switzerland, can reduce the pressure loss in typical FFP2 filter media to less than a quarter. Even filtration efficiencies of more than 99.99% are easily achieved in typical filter media of 35 g/m² at 35 Pa. Tests at pilot customers manufacturing FFP2 face masks have confirmed quality increases due to the improved filtration with a simultaneous reduction in material usage of 30%. For end users, the consequence is noticeably improved comfort resulting from significantly reduced breathing resistance.
The hydro-charging unit is characterized by its considerably lower water and energy consumption compared to other hydro-charging concepts. It allows an additional drying process to be dispensed with in many applications.
»We invested a lot of work in the development of this equipment to more efficiently produce filter media. So, we are really proud as it was only released at the beginning of this year, and it’s already being recognized by the industry. «
Around 100 filtration media professionals attended the Filtrex 2-day conference on topics relating to filtration. The program addressed issues from sustainability to testing and standardization, as well as providing inspiring insights on future trends in the health and the automotive industries.
