A new production line for manufacturing medical masks from meltblown nonwovens has been commissioned by the packaging and paper company Mondi Group, Vienna/Austria, at its site in Gronau/Germany. Mondi specializes in hygiene applications and draws on experience from 50 years of production at this site.
The production speed of 700 masks/min is considerably higher than that of conventional lines (approx. 100 masks/min). This results in around 1 million masks/day. The important base material, meltblown nonwovens, is also produced in-house on a nonwovens line from the machinery and plant manufacturer Reifenhäuser Reicofil GmbH & Co. KG, Troisdorf/Germany. The international technology group Andritz AG, Graz/Austria, is also the partner for mask production.
This fully integrated production of medical face masks on 2 highly automated high-speed machines lays the foundation for what the company claims is the highest quality mask production Made in Germany.
The masks are certified as a medical product according to Oeko-Tex as well as Dermatest. Mondi Gronau is thus targeting the German healthcare sector, including hospitals, pharmacies and medical retailers.
