Partnership for antibacterial textile innovation

The specialist in antimicrobial technologies Parx Materials NV, Rotterdam/Netherlands, has partnered with Shanghai Textile Raw Materials Co., Ltd., part of China's Orient International Group, for a five-year strategic collaboration.

The agreement integrates Parx's patented zinc-based antibacterial technology into one of the largest Chinese textile producers, marking an important step in industrial-scale antimicrobial textile production.

Parx's physical antibacterial solution eliminates the need for heavy metals or chemicals, achieving over 99.9% antibacterial efficiency while preserving the natural qualities of fibers such as lyocell. Validated by ISO 20743:2021 standards, the technology also withstands multiple industrial washes. This innovation, introduced directly into fiber spinning processes, positions Parx as a leader in sustainable and durable antibacterial textiles.
The patented technology of Parx Materials is creating an antimicrobial barrier characterized by:

  • no need for heavy metals, nanoparticles or sterilizing chemicals
  • maintained effectiveness throughout the product life cycle
  • retention of all natural textile properties (softness, breathability, appearance)
  • drug-free oral safety certification for sensitive applications

The technology is suitable for areas such as medical textiles, high-end home textiles, mother and baby products, and intimate apparel.

Shanghai Textile Raw Materials Co., Ltd., Shanghai/China, with a daily capacity of 120 tons, will incorporate this technology across its portfolio, which includes medical, home, and baby products. The strategic collaboration capitalizes on growing consumer demand for hygiene-focused textiles, especially in Asia-Pacific, where the antibacterial textile market is projected to surpass $12 billion by 2030.
